Autumn is by far my favourite season, for many reasons. It's cold enough to snuggle up, chuck on a warm fuzzy jumper and enjoy nice warm cups of tea, but it isn't so cold that you lose all energy and motivation to go out. Plus, the beautiful colours make perfect photography.
The leaves are starting to fall here in Orange. Not a full blown colour spectrum, but enough to add that gorgeous warm atmosphere to your photography. Here's an image I've been working on from a recent family shoot.

Newborn Shoot-Holly
Baby Holly was an absolute dream to photograph. Born at 6 pounds, she was so sweet and tiny. For this shoot, I worked mostly with whites and neutrals, with little pops of pinks and purples.
I also used my lightbox in a different way. I used it as a backlight/backdrop for some images with mum/dad/sister. It worked out really well, but will take some more practice to perfect it, as I had some issues with "sunspots" (I suppose you could call them). Gaining focus was also tricky, but I managed to get it sorted without the images being completely silhouetted.
Here's some images from the shoot for you to enjoy.
Btw, we well also be having a February Sale! Every Basic Newborn, Maternity and Family photography package will be just $90 till the end of February. So keep an eye on our Facebook page for that.

Busy Weekend
As the title suggests, it's been an incredibly busy week here at Chloe Mackenzie Photography. The formal that I photographed last Friday turned out great, but it was a lot of work. I got through the editing super quickly as I knew converting to disc would take a while....ended up taking about 2 solid days just to burn the images to the discs. Granted, I was flattered that I was booked. It was my first major photoshoot, and was sort of a tester. It took me out of my comfort zone, which I've promised myself that I will be doing more often. Although I did enjoy it, it is a lot more work than what I expected it to be. It will be something I would considering doing again in the future, but events wouldn't be an avenue that I would like to specialize. I much prefer newborns. Which is why I have not advertised or mentioned it on my social media pages.
On Saturday I also photographed a beautiful young family. It was quite challenging, as it consisted with a toddler and a newborn, but ultimately it was very rewarding. I got some amazing shots of the family at the beginning, but then the little man was far to interested in my camera to sit back down with his mum. Eventually I decided that getting some images of him in his element (running around, getting excited over everything from leaves to ducks) was the best way for this shoot to become a success. His smile was enough to make any photograph memorable.
Tomorrow I will be traveling to photograph a gorgeous mum to be.......I may be a little bias as she is my sister, but I can not wait. It's finally a chance for me to test out my new softboxes, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.
I've been considering and pondering where my blog is going. I understand that my audience isn't large (I actually don't think there's anyone reading this), but it helps me to unwind when things are getting quite busy, which is nice.

End of Diploma
Yesterday, I had my very last day at Tafe. It was a little sad, but very exciting. In no ways is this the end of my learning, nor the end of my photography. I am very excited for what the future has in store for myself and my classmates.
A few days ago, I ordered myself a new laptop. Well, my first laptop. I had been previously using my mothers computer and it had seen better days. It was about time that I upgraded to something I can call mine. The expected delivery was 6-14 days. I ordered it on Friday, it arrived on yesterday. So it was quite a nice way to end the day.
I have a busy week ahead of me. I have been booked to photograph my local high school's year 10 formal. Hopefully this will lead into more opportunities and be a continuous thing. I have asked a friend of mine to be my assistant on the day, to hold the reflector ect so I'm a lot less nervous that what I would have been if I was doing it alone. I also have a family photo session on Saturday. First time I've had two shoots day after each other, but I figure that with the general lighting being the same on Friday, due to being in the same location, doing the editing in Lightroom will not take all that long. Should have it done over night I think, especially with my new laptop that is super quick. The only issue after that is to get all the images onto 30 (ish) disks, which will take some time but I will be able to multitask while it happens.
I am excited for what the future has to offer, and I'm more than ready to go for it.

Exhibition 2015 + Update
This year, I was a part of the exhibition 'Momentum' which was held at the Orange Tafe Campus. I had several works displayed, including my water survival series, my painting with light mystery series, and my transient series. I actually sold all 3 of my water survival series, and my transient series.
Its probably one of the biggest compliments I have ever received. Its like the old saying "Want to compliment a photographer? Book a shoot with them", but its somewhat better. I didn't create these images specifically for them, they just wanted what they saw I had for offer. It's an incredible confidence boost. It's probably the confidence boost that I needed too.
My study will very soon be over. I have just one class left then I'm being launched into the big world trying to make a name for myself. I am excited, and a little scared. I've always been a student. I started studying again straight after high school so this will be the first time in 15 years that I will no longer have my head in the books. Does not mean I will not be learning though, every photoshoot I have been booked for I have learned something new. Such as my last newborn shoot taught me not to rely on just white noise, some babies love car noises and air conditioning noises, and my last booked maternity shoot taught me to take a deposit when creating the booking. Oh the joys.
I have also updated my prop collection, as well as splashed out and finally bought some continuous lighting softboxes for my newborn and maternity sessions. Have not used them yet, but will be hopefully soon.
